It had been quite a long time since my last green smoothie, and I found myself craving one of them this morning. Luckily I had the ingredients on hand to whip up something delicious.

This picture does not really do it justice – it looked more appetising in real life 😉

Firstly, I blended together some water, spinach, spirulina, raw cacao powder and maca powder. I then added in a some banana and a ton of blueberries. I sprinkled the finished product with some raw cacao nibs (yum!).

This is a great way to start the day, and I find the smoothie to be very energising and cleansing. And as a bonus, I only needed to drink half a cup of coffee when I first woke up this morning – score!

Hummus has got to be one of my favourite foods. Ever.

When I am feeling really lazy I pick some up from the store, however, homemade hummus is so much more tasty and natural. So I made a batch of this amazing dip yesterday. Although it wasn’t my finest attempt, it still turned out pretty darned tasty 😀

600g chickpeas

2 tbsp tahini

100ml olive oil

3 cloves of garlic

1 tsp cumin (ground)

Juice of 1 lemon

Cayenne pepper to serve (although on this occasion I used regular chilli)

1/4 cup water (more or less, as needed)

Put everything into a food processor or powerful blender and mix well. Add additional water to the mixture, as you need to. Serve in a bowl, and sprinkle with the cayenne pepper. YUM!

With toasted mountain bread.

The weather is freezing where I live at the moment, so I wanted to make something warming and full of nutrition. I started out intending to make a soup, however, I overcooked it, so it turned out more like a stew. And it was totally delicious!

I didn’t use a recipe, I just threw it all together at the time. It includes:

1 head of garlic

1 brown onion

1 green pepper

2 stalks celery

2 tomatoes

2 carrots

1 can canellini beans

2 cups of veggie stock

a dash of olive oil

a generous pinch of thyme

Throw it all in a pot, and let it cook away! I served mine with some toasted mountain bread (delicious!), and it made for a fantastic meal 🙂

So, this is my first ever blog which I am very excited about! I’ll be using it to post about awesome vegan recipes and foods, as well as my thoughts on vegan-related issues which I come across.

I am passionate about animal welfare, sustainability, and environmentalism. I don’t believe there is enough discussion in sustainability/environmentalism debates about the use of animals in our food system. I also think that if people were aware of how poorly animals are treated in food production, there would be far less demand for animal products.

I am in no way an expert on any of these issues, and I find myself learning more and more each day about the effects of animal products on the environment and on our health. Hopefully this blog helps to promote the delicious animal-free foods out there, and encourages more people to include plant-based foods into their diet!
